My current spec LP12 is Cirkus, Kore, Trampolin 2, Lingo 3, Newest Akito (seems some debate as to whether to call it 2B or 3) with a Dynavector 20x2H (will replace with L version at next replacement / service). However, ten days later I notice that it’s beginning to embed. Even then the Karousel has yet to settle in properly as the old platter only "married" at one precise point initially with the new inner platter. So - what’s causing the most audible impact ? Well, the cartridge is still quite young, so it will be a while before it settles in, therefore I’d say the Karousel has had the most immediate effect. In the past three weeks, I’ve added an AT33Sa, a Linn Karousel, a full service and a new belt.Ĭlearly, the stunning sound that I’m enjoying right now is a sum of all those parts. First of all, there was the Collaro mat bought about five months ago. However, all this euphoria must be tempered by the fact that many changes have been made of late. Some of my LPs I barely recognise, they sound so different. The best way I can put it to the both of you is that ever since, every day is like Christmas. Yes, it was an early bearing, probably an original. The Karousel came with a service included in the price. My Linn sits there giving satisfaction year after year (I NEVER turn it off), doesn’t go out of tune, causes no problems, never lets me down. Obviously, I’ve upgraded or simply changed the cartridge in all that time owing to wear and tear, but that’s all. Regular and largely pointless upgrades are the domain of Apple and Samsung and the like. When the Karousel was announced, I decided, on balance, that this was a worthwhile upgrade and purchased it using 12 months interest-free credit. Ditto the Linn Ekos SE (not that I’d kick it out of bed). As tempting as Lingo 2, 3, and 4 may be (over once again, the last 30 years), I’ve felt no need to succumb. Quite where this notion of upgrades every 15 minutes comes from, I’ve no idea. It’s their first upgrade to the bearing in 30 years and the first upgrade I’ve applied to my LP12 since 1989, when I bought the Linn Ekos quickly followed by the Linn Lingo.
